Privacy policy

Last updated: October 8, 2026.

1. Who we are

Naamly is operated by Deval Ventures LLC ("we", "us"). It helps couples choose a baby name together, on the web at naamly.app and in our iPhone and Android apps. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. Questions: team@naamly.app.

2. What we collect

Account: your name as you enter it, your email address, and how you sign in (Google, Apple, or an email link). If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name and email from them, never your password. Apple lets you hide your email; then we receive a private relay address.
Your Nest: what you set up together (heritages, surname, names you want to honor, sibling names, and filters), plus your swipes (like, pass, or veto), matches, shortlist, names you add, Duel votes, family vote settings, AI name ideas, and reveal cards.
Family voters: a relative who votes from a link gives a first name and their ranking of your shortlist. They are signed in anonymously on their device and do not create an account.
Feedback: if you write to us from the app, your message, the type (idea, problem, or question), an optional screenshot, an optional email for our reply, and the app version and platform.
Purchases: if you buy the Duel Pass, we receive a record of the purchase (which Nest, the store or Stripe, a transaction ID, and the date). Stripe, Apple, or Google handle the payment itself; we never see or store your card details.
Device: if you allow notifications on your phone, a push token for your device.
Usage and errors: events such as "a swipe happened" or "a Duel started", linked to a random account ID rather than your name or email, and never including which names you looked at. Error reports with technical details (device or browser type, app version, what went wrong). Like any website, our providers also receive your IP address when you connect.

3. How we use it

To run Naamly: build your name deck, find matches, run the Duel and family votes, create reveal pages and share cards, and send you notifications you allowed.
To unlock the Duel Pass for both of you, and to restore it on a new device.
To answer your messages, fix problems, and understand which features are used so we can improve them.
To keep Naamly safe: limits on how often costly features can be used, and checks that requests come from our real app.
We do not sell your data, share it for advertising, or show ads.

4. AI features

When you ask for AI name ideas, we send your Nest's heritages, surname, names you want to honor, sibling names, and the names you both liked to our AI provider, Anthropic, to generate suggestions. When you add a name we don't know, we send that name to get a meaning and origin. Your email and account details are not sent.
Under our agreement with Anthropic, this data is not used to train their models.
Some name meanings and all AI suggestions are written by AI and can be wrong.

5. What other people can see

Your partner sees your matches, shortlist, the Duel, and names you added once they match. They never see your individual swipes, passes, or vetoes. In the Duel, they see whether you have voted, and the result once you both have.
Family voters see only the shortlist you share and never see your swipes. The results are visible only to the two of you.
A reveal page you create is public to anyone with its link. It shows the name, meaning, and card you chose. A match card you share goes only where you send it; we do not keep a copy.

6. Service providers

Google Firebase and Google Cloud (accounts, database, file storage, hosting, and server functions; on the web, Google reCAPTCHA to check that requests come from our site), Anthropic (AI suggestions and meanings), Stripe (web payments), RevenueCat with Apple and Google (in-app purchases), Expo (push notifications), PostHog (usage analytics), Sentry (error reports), and Resend (delivering your feedback to our inbox).
They process data only to provide their service to us, under their own privacy and security terms. We may also disclose data if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our users.

7. Storage on your device

Naamly stores a few things on your device: what keeps you signed in, a copy of the name library so swiping is fast, a random ID for usage analytics, and drafts and settings. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

8. Your choices and rights

Analytics: turn off "Share usage data" in Settings (Privacy) at any time.
Notifications: turn them off in Settings or in your device settings.
Correct: change your name and your Nest details in the app.
Delete your account from Settings (Delete my account), or without the app by following naamly.app/delete-account. In the app it takes effect immediately. We delete your sign-in, your profile, your swipes and votes, the names you added, and the feedback you sent. If your partner stays, the matches and Duel you built together are cleared. If you were the last person in your Nest, the whole Nest is deleted, including its reveal pages and family votes.
Access and copies: email team@naamly.app to get a copy of your data or to ask anything about it. Depending on where you live (for example the EU, the UK, or California), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your data, and to object to or restrict how we use it. You can use them by emailing us; we answer within 30 days, and you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
We will not treat you differently for using these rights.

9. How long we keep data

We keep your data while your account exists and delete it when you delete your account, as described above.
Family vote links close after 14 days; the votes stay with your Nest until it is deleted.
Feedback emails in our inbox are kept as long as we need them to help you; ask us to delete them at any time.
Usage events and error reports are kept by PostHog and Sentry for a limited period. Purchase records are kept by Stripe, Apple, and Google as the law requires.

10. Security and where data is stored

Data is encrypted in transit and stored with Google Cloud in the United States. Security rules limit who can read each piece; for example, only you can read your swipes. If you use Naamly from another country, your data is transferred to and processed in the United States.
No system is perfectly secure. If you think your account has been misused, contact us right away.

11. Children

Naamly is for adults choosing a name for their child. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us data, email team@naamly.app and we will delete it.

12. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. For important changes, we will also tell you in the app or by email before they take effect.
